Students from InFocus College recently took part in GWR’s Try a Train campaign – a programme designed to help people with disabilities build confidence when travelling independently.

The students were guided by GWR’s Accessibility Team through key travel tasks such as navigating platforms, using ticket barriers and safely boarding and exiting trains. Even Rupee, the volunteer accessibility ambassador dog, joined the experience to help ease nerves and add a little joy to the day.

“Our students had a brilliant day learning vital travel skills, and we are so grateful to the GWR Accessibility Team for delivering such an interactive and rewarding experience,” said Alison Heath, Mobility Specialist at InFocus.

For many students, these practical experiences are essential stepping stones to greater independence and mobility – opening up their world beyond the classroom.
