South Moor Vets, an independent Devon-based veterinary group, has become the newest member of XLVets, marking a significant milestone after a year of rapid growth and investment.
With a history stretching back 90 years, the company has evolved into one of the region’s most trusted veterinary providers, delivering pet, farm and equine services from four modern practices across Kingsbridge, Modbury, Ivybridge and Dartington.
South Moor Vets’ most recent investment includes a new £1 million state-of-the-art facility in Dartington, offering full surgical, laboratory and hospitalisation services. With its modern equipment and skilled team, the practice now handles nearly all veterinary procedures in-house, reducing the need for external referrals.

The South Devon company now employs a 105-strong team who are nearly all outdoor enthusiasts, with approximately 40 horse riders and more than 20 surfers championing a lifestyle that embraces the best of Devon country life.

South Moor Vets and XLVets
South Moor Vets is the 65th member of XLVets – a nationwide community of independently owned veterinary practices. The move underlines the company’s commitment to remaining independent while sharing best practice, knowledge and innovation across the industry. The membership also makes the company a shareholder within the XLVets community.
Will McMullan, who is the Director of South Moor Vets said: “Joining XLVets was a natural step for us. We’ve grown from a team of 45 in 2017 to 105 in 2025, and that growth brings with it the challenge of running a complex, modern business. XLVets provides invaluable support in areas like HR, finance and procurement, so we can continue focusing on delivering exceptional care.”
A key part of the company’s appeal lies in its independent status, something the team believes resonates strongly with local pet owners and farmers. As one of the only independent practices in Dartington and Totnes, the firm continues to attract clients who value personal service and locally owned expertise.
XLVets CEO Andrew Curwen welcomed the new partnership: “South Moor Vets brings innovation, experience and a fantastic community reputation to our network. Together, we’re building a stronger, collaborative future for independent veterinary care.”
