How a Devon marketing executive turned Good Vibes Rollercoaster into one of YouTube’s fastest-growing independent bands

Good Vibes Rollercoaster, one of YouTube’s fastest-growing independent bands, owes much of its success to the marketing expertise of Devon executive Matt Walton, who has shown that the same branding and digital marketing strategies used by major organisations can also launch an independent music project onto the global stage.

Matt, who was raised in Devon and has spent more than three decades working in technology, digital transformation and marketing leadership, has turned an unknown rock band into one of YouTube’s fastest-growing new independent music channels.

In just ten weeks after launching Good Vibes Rollercoaster in March 2026, the band has attracted more than 665,000 YouTube views, almost 29,000 subscribers and over 1.5 million views across social media platforms, all without the backing of a record label.

The project has also secured more than 400 playlist additions and is beginning to attract attention from music journalists around the world. For Matt, however, the success has been about much more than music. Having held senior roles including Board Advisor, Chief Technology Officer, Head of Digital and Transformation Director, he approached the band exactly as he would a business launch – combining strategic positioning, audience insight, consistent branding and digital marketing with authentic storytelling.

“Everything we’ve built has been rooted in authenticity, community and consistency,” he says. “We’ve treated the band like a brand, but without ever losing sight of why we make music in the first place.”

Rather than chasing current musical trends, Good Vibes Rollercoaster has carved out its own identity with an upbeat, feel-good sound inspired by Woodstock, glam rock, Britpop and classic pop-rock. That authenticity extends beyond the music itself.

Putting Devon at the heart of the story

The band’s videos have been filmed across Devon and the wider West Country, featuring locations including Newton Abbot, Scoriton Village and Dartmoor alongside the New Forest. The local landscapes have become part of the band’s identity, reinforcing Matt’s belief that storytelling and a strong sense of place help audiences connect with a brand.

The approach appears to be working. Brazilian publication Roadie Metal described the band as “a melodic breath of good music”, while Zona Emergente in Mexico praised its “fusion charged with energy and power”. UK publication Soap Life Magazine said the group was “igniting unity with feel-good fire”.

French publication Extrava added that the band offers something increasingly rare in modern music. “In a landscape often saturated with cynicism or distance, Good Vibes Rollercoaster makes a simple bet: to still believe in the strength of the collective, in shared energy, in those moments when music becomes a meeting.”

The musicians behind the project also bring significant experience, with contributors including Darrin Mooney (Primal Scream and Gary Moore), Jonathan Noyce (Jethro Tull and Gary Moore), Paddy Milner (Tom Jones), Gareth Matthews at EchoTown Studios and Abbey Road mastering engineer Frank Arkwright.

For Matt, the experience demonstrates that independent creators and small businesses can compete successfully by combining clear positioning with consistent execution. “Marketing can get people to discover you once. Authenticity is what makes them come back.”

Good Vibes Rollercoaster released its fourth single, All Aboard!, on 29 June 2026, continuing its mission to bring positivity, community spirit and festival energy into everyday life. For Devon businesses, Matt Walton’s journey demonstrates that success isn’t determined by location or budget. With a clear strategy, compelling storytelling and the confidence to be authentic, businesses across Devon can build brands that stand out far beyond the county.
